How to Become a Cosmetologist in Wisconsin

Wisconsin is known for a few very specific things: its landscape, sports, and cheese. With lakes, rivers, and forests, there are a number of natural wonders and outdoor activities available. From the Milwaukee Bucks to the Green Bay Packers, fans always have a sports team to cheer for. Finally, cheese… Wisconsin makes a lot of that! One other thing you can do in Wisconsin is earn your cosmetology license.

Within a year, you can become a professional hair stylist, makeup artist, nail technician, or skin care specialist. After enrolling in an accredited beauty school, you must complete 1,800 hours of training. This will include both coursework and hands-on practice. An apprenticeship of 4,000 is also acceptable opposed to beauty school training. Next, you have to pass a board exam on behalf of the Wisconsin Barbering and Cosmetology Examining Board. To become a cosmetology instructor, you must have your cosmetology license along with an additional 150 hours of training and another 2,000 hours of work experience.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average cosmetologist earns about $10 an hour. However, this does not include tips. The field of cosmetology will always be high in demand and the state of Wisconsin has a low cost of living. If you are looking to earn a decent pay doing something you love then you should consider a license in cosmetology.
